(CNN)”Transparent” is saying goodbye to Maura with a musical celebration.
Amazon on Saturday dropped the first teaser for what’s been dubbed as the “musicale finale” (hint: it’s supposed to rhyme). In it, the entire Pfefferman crew struggles with the news of Maura’s death. Part of Shelly’s (Judith Light) coping involves plotting a musical take on her family’s story, a feat that draws mixed reaction from her children (played by Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass). “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway in April confirmed the show’s movie farewell would kill off the character that Jeffrey Tambor had played since 2014. Tambor was dismissed from the show last year over accusations of harassment toward others on set. (In a statement after his firing, the actor called the allegations against him “false.”)Read MoreTambor had played Maura Pfefferman, a transgender woman who comes out to her wife and children.Trace Lysette and more ‘Transparent’ favorites appear in the musical finale. “Making it into a musical in some ways rescued it from being overly serious,” Soloway told reporters Saturday at the Television Critics Association press tour. “We had to come back to joy. We had to find out way back to joy and a musical allowed us to do that.”The movie, which features original music by Faith Soloway, also stars Alexandra Billings, Kathryn Hahn, Shakina Nayfack, and Trace Lysette. “This musical finale is more about going out in celebration and isn’t that the key to freedom?” Billings added. “That, for me, is everyone’s story.” The “Transparent” finale will be available for streaming on September 27.
