Law enforcement in Santa Fe, Texas responded to reports of an active shooter situation Friday morning. Local news reported around 9:45 a.m. that a suspect was in custody.

According to local reports, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, and Santa Fe Police Department were investigating a shooting at Santa Fe High School. A message on the school website stated that “an incident occurred” at the high school involving an active shooter and that the district had initiated a lockdown in response.

Santa Fe High School issued a statement to KPRC2 around 9:20 a.m., saying, “This morning an incident occurred at the high school involving an active shooter. The district has initiated a lockdown. We will send out additional information as soon as it is available.”


According to a dispatcher at the Santa Fe Police Department who spoke with the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, police were still on the scene as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern Time. Officials also said that Life Flight had been called to the scene.

Witnesses who spoke with ABC13 Houston claimed that the shooting occurred between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. local time, although police have not yet released an official timeline of the incident.

It was not immediately clear whether police had a shooter in custody.

We’re currently in protect mode as a precaution because of reports of a shooting at Santa Fe HS. Doors are locked & personnel are stationed at outer doors to let people in and out. No students allowed outside of building. Field trips are postponed until we go off of protect mode.

A nearby high school tweeted at 9:17 a.m. Eastern Time that they were “currently in protect mode” as a precaution because of reports of a shooting at Santa Fe High School.
