Jerusalem (CNN)Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former army chief Benny Gantz met Monday evening to discuss the possibility of a unity government in Israel, according to a joint statement released by the two leaders.

Netanyahu faces possible charges of bribery and breach of trust, pending a final pre-indictment hearing in front of the attorney general scheduled for the first week of October.
